Mark started playing guitar in 1963. He played with Shadowfax , Dream Theater and other bands on the west coast back in the 70’s, and spent the 80’s on the east coast subbing in with such bands as The Byrds, Firefall, Angelfire, and Sassy Jones.
Two decades ago Mark started visiting his mother in the Ozark during the summer months, and began giving SCUBA instruction on Lake Norfork, Arkansas. He soon teamed up with friend and fellow musician Bob Ketchum and the rest, they say, is history…….
Mark's first instrumental album entitled "Sans Vocals" is a collection of wonderfully colorful instrumentals. The styles range from the jazzy "335" to a salsa-tinged "NYE '99" and "#59", with some sweet romantic moods like "Romance Novel" and "Piano #1" thrown in for good measure. This CD contains 16 songs (one hour) of mood elevating guitar gymnastics, perfect for driving, relaxing, or that special evening spent with a special friend by a roaring fire.
Mark and Bob formed the band “Spilt Milk” in 2001. Many great players from the area played in the group at one time or another, including Steve Smith, Doug DeForest, Robbie Springfield, Larry McFarland, and Jerry Bone. The band went on hiatus in 2008 due to Bob being diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome.
The most recent album, titled "If You Can't Beat 'Em", by OMC, took over a year to record. Now completed, the duo are looking for label support. Mark and Bob have been involved in many collaberations, including a project called “Diving Grand Turk”, involved Mark and Bob writing a music soundtrack for a diving video. In 2008 Mark and Bob were contracted to furnish the soundtrack for an Independent film release which is due to be released in 2009.
Recently Mark relocated to sunny Florida where he spends quality time with his son in the Orlando area. He does a singles act accompanied only with his trusty guitar. He draws crowds wherever he sets up, and his music is perfect for the sunny Florida crowd scene. He plays a wonderful spanish guitar style, and infuses jazz, rock, blues, and soul into his live set. If you're down in Florida and get a chance to see Mark perform live, don't miss it!
And in case you’re wondering, he still gives diving lessons.
