My very first concert was with "Trapeze" in November, 1971, who were on their second US tour at the time. I had already made their acquaintance in Fayetteville a year previous (I had done some radio interviews with them when they appeared at the University Of Arkansas) and over the course of the following year I gave them heavy doses of airplay and apparently accounted for a considerable increase in the sale of their product in the region. We corresponded frequently and became good friends, so when they returned to the US in 1971 they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. They agreed to play a concert in Fort Smith for a ridiculous and pitiful amount of money if I would act as the concert promoter. Thus began my career as a concert promoter.
Over a period of four years I promoted or assisted in the promotion of many concerts in the Fort Smith area, including Black Oak Arkansas, Detroit with Mitch Ryder, Bloodrock, Jukin' Bone, Bang, The Lee Pickens Group, The Association, The Grass Roots, Sugarloaf, The Ides Of March, The Box Tops, The Gentrys, The Ilusion, Flaming Ember, and Styx.
